Our Buying Managers know their stuff and therefore they get to know our market. They also get to know our customers and use their commercial-savvy to decide what will sell and where, so that their categories flourish and our ambitions are realised.

If you are successful in this role, you’ll set your Trading Plan and get buy-in from the business. Your passion for it will inspire and motivate those around you to make it happen and ensure the delivery of sales and profit targets for your category.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver the sales and margin targets for your category
  • Develop a rolling 12 month Trading Plan, and take measures to react to market opportunities and impacts
  • Work with the Category Manager to create and deliver a Category Plan
  • Identify and propose range, price, and promotional opportunities, based on consumer understanding and financial viability, and that deliver our customer promises of Convenience, Vale, and Product Leadership
  • Work with the Kingfisher Group and ‘local suppliers’ to develop and innovate our range proposition
  • Manage local supplier relationships and negotiate support / cost prices with these local vendors
  • Involvement in financial budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Continuously monitor market and consumer trends, acting on insight to ensure Screwfix always deliver for our Trade customers

Required skills & experience

  • Retail Trading experience, either as a buyer or similar
  • Clear understanding of how to develop and deliver commercial concepts
  • Strategic sales management, understands seasonality, price perception
  • Clear understanding of financial reporting
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office knowledge including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong project management / deadline management skills
