Job Description:

Reporting to the Head of Processing, the Royal Mail International (RMI) Shift Manager is a member of the Plant management team and is responsible for RMI operations across the shift leading the successful achievement of quality of service, productivity, automation and employee targets driving these through the effective application of Continuous Improvement tools and techniques.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with Ops Control and the Engineering team leads to maximise the volumes of automated mail and to drive improvements in machine performance
  • Budget responsibility for the shift within overall Plant budget and responsibility for the effective running of the shift and driving the achievement of metrics and targets
  • Lead the deployment of change across the shift, using a project management approach – including stakeholder management, communications, tracking of progress against plan, risk management and tracking of achievement of benefits
  • Asset management – integrates using the Production Control System (PCS), a bespoke operating system a plant comprising an Arrivals Tilt Tray Sorter (ATTS), a Despatch Tilt Tray System (DTTS), 4 Integrated Mail Processors (IMPs), 4 Linear Parcel Sorting Machines, four monorails and 10 X-Ray machines collectively worth £100m

Job Requirements:

  • Experience of leading a large team, with experience of working a 2nd line manager level
  • Planning skills/project management – able to develop a plan, understand the risks, monitor progress and deploy the plan to time with benefits achieved
  • Proven experience of successfully running a large operation – achieving targets across a range of scorecard measures . Operational knowledge of the letters operation and the overall plant operation
  • Strong drive, enthusiasm and resilience – constantly strives to improve performance, ability to build strong working relationships and energise colleagues.
  • IT literacy of basic office systems, in house plant and HR systems
  • Experience of using continuous improvement techniques to deploy major change and successfully leading people through change
  • Data analysis and problem solving – ability to evaluate process performance, using KPIs/metrics, identify trends and shifts in performance and develop solutions
  • Stakeholder management – able to build effective relationships with a range of senior stakeholders
