About the Role: We have an exciting opening within the Stock Management Hardware team, which is responsible for the hardware development for many of these innovative automated machinery products within our Customer Fulfilment Centres. We are looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer, who will be responsible for the mechanical design of inbound and decant automation products. As an Engineer at Ocado, you may be involved at any stage of the product development lifecycle, from translating requirements, through concept generation, detail design and manufacturer support, all the way through to design updates and enhancements. Day-to-day, you will work with Ocado Technology teams and component suppliers in order to: Develop and optimise designs in 3D CAD software with associated CAE tools. Validate manufacturing, assembly, and service feasibility. Complete and release component designs and documentation, including 2D drawings. Validate components per defined engineering requirements. Resolve issues and concerns with cross-functional teams including engineering, firmware,supply chain, production, and service. Participate in the sourcing process and manage engineering relationships with suppliers. Deliver to defined timelines and schedules. About You: You will have: A good Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Mechanical Engineering qualification with associated professional experience. Proficiency with 3D CAD software e.g. Solidworks. The ability to generate technical documentation. Experience presenting ideas to a group audience, and the ability to influence others. The ability to work within a team on multiple projects concurrently, to prioritise tasks and to manage time autonomously. A proven record of working in a fast paced, dynamic professional environment. This would make you stand out from the crowd… Experience with Solidworks and PDM software, including Practical FEA experience. Experience designing specialised machinery, mechatronics systems, and or complex mechanisms. Experience draughting to BS8888 with the use of GD&T. Familiarity with and experience of production processes including CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication, as well as product Handling Machines and Automation. Experience with risk identification and activities to de-risk designs through analysis and testing.
