Job Description:
Scotland’s Railway is part of this large family and it covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services. Job Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate the full ranges of reports and emerging data to assess the performance of the assigned assurance processes.
- Act as a coach to those performing local accident investigations and support those charged with implementing recommendations.
- Establish constructive working relationships with external organisations, including other Railway
- Group Members that generate a respect within those organisations for investigations led by Network Rail.
- Act as the lead Investigator in selected serious investigations to deliver investigations to professional standards, identifying immediate and underlying causes, and delivering reports of a high standard which fulfil the remit timescales and justify recommendations to correct the causes identified.
- Develop close working relationships with route based designated competent persons and investigators; provide specialist advice and support as necessary to promote improvements in the standard of investigation processes, report quality, and share best practice.
- Manage responses to comments and queries concerning investigation reports, taking steps to have information appropriately evaluated.
- Produce specific reviews and reports from emerging trends, audits and investigation findings drawing out meaningful conclusions regarding the safety and environmental management systems and risk control measures.
Job Requirements:
- Good knowledge of railway operations, engineering, safety and environmental management
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Good knowledge of health and safety legislation
- Detailed knowledge of investigation techniques and able to demonstrate their proper application
- Logical thinker, with good analytical skills and computer operating skills
