Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF) is looking to appoint cleaning operatives for the academic and office buildings at the University of Sussex

We are looking to recruit cleaning operatives at the University of Sussex The working hours are Monday to Friday 20 hours per week, 6 am to 10 am or 6 pm to 10 pm. weekend work available

Experience in the cleaning industry is preferable, but we will give serious consideration to hard working candidates with a positive “can do” attitude. Full training provided,

You will be expected to clean to a high standard. You will have a good working knowledge of cleaning practices, full BICS training will be given. You must be able to follow instructions. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential as commitment to adopt our visions and values .You will be working 20 hours per week Monday to Friday and overtime over the weekend

We require a hard working and reliable person for this role.

Please note you will need to live within a 15 mile radius to apply for this role and you will need to be able to proof you have the right to work 20 hours a week.

Salary: £10.90 per hour

Role and responsibilities

  • Ensure that all instructions received from the Cleaning Supervisor related to the day to day cleaning routine is carried out in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Use of equipment and cleaning materials in the correct and safe manner.
  • Replenishment of janitorial supplies in lavatories including toilet tissue, hand towels and soap.
  • Empty waste.
  • The cleaning, washing sweeping, vacuum cleaning, emptying litter bins, polishing and dusting of designated areas and fixtures and fittings, using where necessary the appropriate powered equipment.
  • Be committed to customer service and care.
  • Adhere to health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Collection and returning safely security keys.
  • Report any building defects daily to the supervisor.
  • Report any occurrences immediately to Supervisor e.g emergencies, floods, intruders and accidents
  • To report any welfare concerns to the supervisor.
  • To help support a positive student experience.
  • Identify stains and use proper chemicals for removal;
  • Vacuum, shampoo, and clean carpets and furniture;
  • Clean all carpet, tile, wood, and furniture requested
  • Maintain all equipment. Set up all equipment required to complete the customer requests;
  • Work independently, without supervision.

In order to be successful in this role you will need have the ability to communicate and read basic English, previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential and have a flexible approach to the role. You will need to be open, honest, self-driven and determined. You’ll need to be reliable and hardworking with a professional attitude.

In your new role as a Cleaning Operative you will ensure equipment is kept clean, well maintained and in safe working order and meeting all agreed SLAs. Build your knowledge and understanding of the designated cleaning area, when the work needs to be carried out and all cleaning equipment and chemicals used on the premises while following Health and Safety requirements. You will need to undertake successfully all training required to deliver the cleaning role. You will be required to work within a team and can work under their own initiative. You will need to build positive and productive working relationships with all customers, delivery excellent customer service and seeking ways to continuously improve and exceed expectations.
