Job Description:

This position will develop and support projects, mentor early career process engineers, and interface and support operations. This position will report to a Process Engineering Team Lead for an Operating Division in the El Segundo refinery. This position is relied upon for technical expertise to support day-to-day operations, process optimization, process safety improvements and evaluations. It is required that the individual have demonstrated expertise in: Distillation and/or Crude Units.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Help identify gaps between current performance and best-in-class and recommend opportunities for improvement
  • Conduct test runs to optimize process variables and evaluate plant performance
    Influence and improve work processes across manufacturing
  • Provide process troubleshooting support, make technical recommendations, answer technical inquiries, improve process engineering tools, and develop process procedures
  • Provide technical recommendations and engineering support during planned unit turnarounds;
  • This work may entail work at heights, confined space entry, and off-hours engineering support
  • Works in collaboration with specialists and engineers of other disciplines
  • Network with subject matter experts in other facilities to leverage shared expertise
  • Provide technical mentoring to unit engineers in crude units and distillation as a subject matter expert
  • Provides requested technical advice and recommendations to project teams within the required time frames
  • Provide support to and carry out studies (PHA, LOPA, AOS, DMI, Relief Systems, etc.) to improve plant safety, reliability, and economics

Job Requirements:

  • Experience supporting major turnarounds and/or capital project execution
  • Familiarity with process monitoring tools and process modeling software. PI, Seeq, PROII etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in Process Engineering in chemical, petrochemical, refining, complex process facilities.
  • Possibly through operation support engineering assignments or process design work for capital projects with a specific emphasis on Crude Units and/or Distillation.
  • Awareness of Process Safety Management concepts and principles such as PHA, LOPA, AOA, IOWs etc.
